Emergency Kit — One Week, Food

The Department of Defence’s Be Emergency Ready booklet asks every household to be able to manage a week without power or water. This is the food and nutrition half of that list — picked from our own shelves in Ennis and posted the same day.
About 43,800 calories across 36 items. A week for two people, or three days for a larger household with plenty spare.

Add the whole kit to my basket
Everything lands in your basket as separate items, so you can take out anything you don’t want before you pay.
It assumes you can boil water
On a gas ring, a camping stove or a range — a gas hob lights with a match in a power cut. Nothing here needs a fridge. If you cannot heat anything at all, about a third of the kit is still edible straight from the packet, and those items are marked below.
What is not in this kit
We sell food and supplements, so the hardware is left out. Get these wherever sells them — they are cheaper there anyway:
- A torch, and spare batteries
- A battery or wind-up radio
- A power bank for your phone
And from your pharmacy: any prescription you take, plus painkillers and rehydration sachets. We are not a pharmacy and cannot sell you those.

Why 72 hours?
It is the figure in the booklet that landed in 2.2 million letterboxes, and it comes from the EU’s preparedness guidance. The reason it is not abstract here: in January 2025 Storm Éowyn left hundreds of thousands of Irish homes without power, some for well over a week, and Clare and Galway took the worst of it.
We will remind you in a year
The booklet says to rotate your supplies, and it is right. Most of this keeps well beyond a year, but not forever. Buy the kit and we will email you once, eleven months from now, listing the few items worth replacing. One email. That is the whole thing.
