The Department of Defence's Be Emergency Ready booklet asks every household to be able to manage 72 hours without power or water. The food half of that list is the part we can help with.

Which one
The 72-hour kit is what the booklet actually asks for. The one-week kit is for a household that would rather not think about it again for a while, or that lives somewhere the power stays off longer than most.
They assume you can boil water
A gas ring, a camping stove or a range — a gas hob lights with a match in a power cut. Nothing in the kits needs a fridge. If you cannot heat anything at all, about a third of each kit is edible straight from the packet, and those items are marked on the kit page.
What is not in the kits
We sell food and supplements, so the hardware is left out. A torch and spare batteries, a battery or wind-up radio, and a power bank for your phone are all cheaper wherever sells them. From your pharmacy: any prescription you take, plus painkillers and rehydration sachets. We are not a pharmacy and cannot sell you those.
Water is the other half of the list, and it is not worth posting — store your own.
